American High School Students' Volunteer Trip to Taiwan: English Teaching, Cultural Exchange, and Lasting Friendships

Led by Dr. Liu Dan, nine high school students from New York, USA, arrived in Taiwan in early July 2025 for a meaningful English teaching volunteer trip. Although the original activities scheduled for July 7th were canceled due to Typhoon Danas, the students had more precious time to spend with their host families.

Rich and Diverse Exchange Experiences

During the following week, the American students volunteered to teach English to first to fifth graders at Jhonghe Elementary School, helping them improve their English proficiency. In the afternoons, they went to ChungShih Vocational High School for in-depth cultural exchanges with Taiwanese high school students. The activities were rich and diverse, including experiencing the power and beauty of Taekwondo firsthand, participating in woodworking courses to show their creativity, and tasting authentic Taiwanese delicacies, giving them a more direct understanding of Taiwanese culture.

In addition, to gain a deeper understanding of the local community, they also visited the Yuanlin Fruit and Vegetable Market to experience the pulse of Taiwanese daily life, and explored nearby historical sites and unique cafes, experiencing the unique charm of Changhua.

Genuine Friendship Across the Pacific

Although the one-week volunteer activity passed quickly, these American students not only established deep friendships with Taiwanese students but also deeply felt the meticulous care and warmth from their host families. This journey full of love and exchange left a deep and beautiful impression on them about Taiwan. Everyone sincerely hopes to have the opportunity to visit Changhua again next year and continue this precious friendship across the Pacific.
