How My Culture Connect Can Help Your ESL Certification Program

COVID-19 Changed Everything

In 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students seeking ESL certifications and needing practicum hours struggled to find opportunities since most schools were temporarily closed. Even once reopened, many struggled to transition to an online learning environment even for their own students, so they had even less capacity to create student teaching for those seeking ESL certifications.

This is where My Culture Connect (MCC) shined, being able to offer ESL certification candidates seeking practicum hours a way to earn them online, not only through observations, but also through tutoring and co-teaching! As vaccines now become more available and more schools begin to reopen their doors, MCC continues to be a place where student teachers can meet their practicum requirements as we continue to offer the full range of opportunities previously mentioned.

How We Help

In addition to our practicum programs (observations, tutoring, and co-teaching), your students also receive support along the way. MCC also offers its student teacher volunteers weekly office hours so that they have a chance to speak with more experienced teachers about any areas where they struggle. Additionally, we regularly develop webinars and workshops discussing topics important to new ESL teachers. When your students volunteer for MCC to get their practicum hours, they become part of our community, and the best part, all of these resources are offered to them for FREE. We never charge for office hours, webinars, or workshops that we offer.

MCC also makes it easy for your organization to verify your students’ practicum hours. Every session, whether observation, tutoring, or co-teaching is recorded. Attendance is taken each and every time. While it is the student’s responsibility to log their own hours, since we have every session recorded, it is easily verifiable upon request.

Join Us In Connecting the World

Here at MCC, we see our collaboration with ESL certification organizations as a win-win. Your student teachers are able to get the experience and support they need to make them better educators, while the young English learners living in rural areas of Taiwan get to have native English speakers as tutors and teachers help them grow in their language abilities.
